01 — What is NAGAISAN?

A quiet room. A very long shadow.

NAGAISAN is a short first-person horror walking simulator by the Japanese developer LuuuLuuuL, made with RPG Developer Bakin and originally released on Steam in September 2024. You wake up in a one-room apartment on a hot summer night, surrounded by the small debris of everyday life: a humming fridge, a bed with a heart-shaped cushion, a window that looks onto a city that never quite sleeps.

On the internet, people are talking about a creature with very long, endlessly stretching limbs. It appears anywhere. It relentlessly chases anyone who knows it. You keep reading about NAGAISAN — and somewhere in the dark, NAGAISAN starts reading about you.

There is no combat, no inventory and no timer. You walk, you look, you examine things, and the story does the rest. It is a slow-burn, dreamlike kind of horror — the sort that stays with you after the browser tab is closed.

02 — The story

“They say it’s a monster with very long, endlessly stretching limbs.”

You have been reading too many occult stories. Somewhere between one forum thread and the next it is already morning, the city is already blue, and your room is already too small. NAGAISAN is a game about the moment the stories stop being stories.

What follows is best discovered yourself. Expect liminal hallways, phone-camera dread, very ordinary objects that become unbearable, and a creature that does not run, because it does not need to.

“Even if you lock your room perfectly, even when you’re asleep and dreaming… NAGAISAN can enter.”

Five things to know before you start

  1. Walk up to things. The world is small on purpose. When a “examine” prompt appears, press Z — objects, windows and doors carry most of the story.
  2. Read everything. The dialogue is the game. There are no fail states, so there is no reason to rush.
  3. Play with sound. NAGAISAN’s atmosphere is built from ambience, room tone and music cues. Headphones make a real difference.
  4. Look behind you. The game rarely shows you anything directly. Turning around is part of the experience.
  5. It saves automatically. Progress is kept in your browser; use the pause menu if you want to stop and return later.

05 — About this browser version

Reverse-engineered. Rebuilt for the web.

This page does not host a video or a walkthrough — it is the game itself. The browser build reads NAGAISAN’s original data files (maps, models, textures, music and event scripts) and re-implements the engine’s runtime in WebGL. Every map, every line of dialogue and every camera move is the shipped game’s own.

It is an unofficial fan adaptation. It is not affiliated with LuuuLuuuL, RPG Developer Bakin or SmileBoom. If you enjoy the game, please support the original release on Steam.

Questions about NAGAISAN

Is NAGAISAN free to play online?

Yes. The browser version on nagaisan.online is free to play with no account, no download and no install. The original PC release is sold separately on Steam.

Do I need to download or install NAGAISAN?

No. NAGAISAN runs inside your browser using WebGL 2. Press play on the homepage and the game starts in a few seconds. The first load streams the game assets, so it can take a little longer than later visits — after that the files are cached.

What is NAGAISAN about?

NAGAISAN is a short Japanese horror walking sim. You wake in a one-room apartment on a hot night, read stories about a creature with endlessly stretching limbs, and explore the liminal night city while something follows you. It is a slow, atmospheric horror experience rather than an action game.

How long is NAGAISAN?

A first playthrough takes roughly 15 to 40 minutes depending on how much you explore. The game also has a second playthrough that changes some events.

What are the controls for NAGAISAN in the browser?

WASD to walk, mouse to look around, Shift to dash, Z / Enter / left click to examine objects and advance dialogue, Esc for the pause menu. Click the game once to capture the mouse; if your browser blocks pointer lock, drag while holding the left mouse button.

Does NAGAISAN work on mobile?

The browser version is designed for desktop browsers with a keyboard and mouse, and that is what we recommend. It may load on modern phones and tablets with WebGL 2, but without a keyboard and mouse it is not the intended experience.

Who made NAGAISAN?

NAGAISAN was created by the Japanese developer LuuuLuuuL with RPG Developer Bakin and released on Steam in September 2024. This site is an unofficial browser adaptation — support the original developer if you enjoy it.

Why does the browser version look slightly different from the Steam screenshots?

The browser build reproduces the original game data in a web renderer. Geometry, maps, textures, music and script are the game’s own, but some effects (screen-space ambient occlusion, bloom, colour grading, reflections) are approximated for real-time WebGL, so lighting and colour can differ from the native renderer.
